Rajasthan, a huge chunk of India, is currently set for its state assembly elections which will take place in November 2018 and the whole country is already questioning, who will be the next Chief Minister of Rajasthan?
As the dates of the election are slowly approaching, three prominent politicians have become increasingly popular for the Chief Minister position: ex-chief minister, Ashok Gehlot or Sachin Pilot from the Indian National Congress (INC) and Vasundhara Raje from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Ashok Gehlot’s roots and experience has received a favorable response from the people of Rajasthan. He was also the first Indian leader to confront the Prime Minister after the Jan Aakrosh rally, which took place on 29 April, and himself respect from the locals.
The second likely contestant for the Chief Minister position, Sachin Pilot is the son-in-law of the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah. He is most likely to earn the Chief Minister position because of his connection to the youth of India. His main aim is to bring the Congress back to power in Rajasthan and strengthen it from the ground level.
There is, however, confusion amongst the INC party on who to put forward as a candidate as both Gehlot and Pilot are extremely capable for the position. No solid confirmation of who the candidate for running will be have been issued yet.
Vasundhara Raje, the third possible candidate for the Chief Minister position, is a woman from the BJP party, the same party whose member is also Narendra Modi, the current Prime Minister of India. This may give Raje an edge over all the other opponents but it may not guarantee her a win over the Chief Minister seat. Vasundhara Raje has recently asked her party members to travel across the state and discuss the various developments her government has undertaken.
It is not set in stone but the next possible Chief Minister is most likely to be from the INC party as they have many prior achievements and experiences.
