A new development has come up in the Odisha State politics. CPM has announced that it has decided that it will join hands with the Congress in the state and will contest in 12 Assembly seats including Bonai. However, the final decision on seat sharing is yet to be made after discussions with the Congress and CPI.
The announcement has come up as a surprise since the Central Committee has taken a stand against any alliance between CPM and Congress. The state leaders have said that since the sole purpose of contesting elections is to defeat BJD that has failed to deliver the promised developments. CPM decided to contest the elections in a limited number of seats where it has a chance of winning with the support of Congress and the Left parties.
In Odisha, Congress is the principal opponent of the BJD. Since BJD has been facing various corruption allegations and losing its popularity among the voters it becomes tough for the serving party to regain the majority and form the government again. Congress, under the leadership of Niranjan Patnaik, has been truly regaining its strength. With the support of the left parties, the Congress party might be able to win the upcoming Odisha Elections 2019 and form a government.
BJP, too that had won a significant number of seats in Odisha after the hype it created in 2014, has been losing its popularity. The national level crises like growth in unemployment, price rises, and many other undelivered poll promises had affected the BJP’s growth in Odisha.
