Congress has been slowly losing its ground in the states of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Bengal. The party is trying to form alliances with CPI, CPI(M) and JMM in Odisha to regain strength as the opposition in the upcoming elections. According to the CPI National Secretary D Raja, OPCC party’s leader, Niranjan Patnaik recently had a meeting to discuss the seat sharing. The parties are planning to take on both BJD and BJP.
The current CM of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik despite many allegations is enjoying a majority in the opinion polls. The many schemes introduced by his government have had a positive effect on the populace of Odisha. Though his party has come under many allegations, it had satisfied majority of people and so he is likely to retain the majority in the next elections.
Meanwhile, BJP seems to be looking to cover its losses in the Hindi speaking states that Congress had won in last year’s elections through Odisha and Bengal. The party is seeing a rise in the number of seats it has won since 2012 and is likely to see an increment in the coming elections.
Congress, on the other hand, failed to secure any of the 21 Lok Sabha seats in the previous elections. While the BJD has kept its vote share as it is, Congress has lost the majority of its vote share to BJP. And looking at the opinion polls conducted, the party might not be able to improve its position in the upcoming Odisha elections 2019.
