Manvendra Singh, son of BJP leader Jaswant Singh had joined Congress ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The move which might affect in the elections was a significant political development in the state of Rajasthan.
Manvendra Singh had met Congress President Rahul Gandhi and the other party leaders like Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot, Randeep Surjewala, and Avinash Pande, before making the announcement. The move, as anticipated by Congress, by the Rajput leader might increase the number of Rajput votes acquired by the Congress in the Assembly elections.
Speaking on the fiasco, the move was interpreted as wrong and that it will be ineffective against the BJP by the BJP leaders. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Rathore told the reporters that regardless of all, the Rajput votes will remain with BJP.
Manvendra Singh won as BJP candidate from the Sheo Assembly constituency, of Barmer District. His father Jaswant Singh was denied ticket in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by the BJP. He contested as an independent candidate and had faced defeat at the hands of BJP Candidate Sonaram. Sonaram had joined the party from Congress and was backed by Vasundhara Raje. However, the decision to not allow Jaswant Singh enraged the Rajput Community and Vasundhara Raje were held responsible for it.
Despite BJP’s many attempts ensuring its victory, the rise of Congress in the Rajasthan elections is clearly visible in all the Opinion polls conducted by the News agencies. most of the polls predict victory for the Congress party in the upcoming elections. This move by the BJP leader might just have added to the congress’s popularity in the region. Rajasthan Assembly Elections are scheduled to take place on 7th December 2018.
