Bhartiya Janata Party Chief, Amit Shah filed his nomination for the Gandhinagar constituency on Monday, the 8th of April. Shah is the Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from the same seat. BJP may have played a big card by replacing the influential leader, Lal Krishna Advani by Shah who will be fighting his first Lok Sabha polls. Political analysts state that sidelining of the 91-year-old Advani, who has never lost in Gandhinagar since 1998 is an indicator of the increasing stature of Amit Shah in the party. It is also seen as a power transfer between generations.

Elections for the 17th Lok Sabha are scheduled to be held in 7 phases in the country starting from 11th April and ending on 19th May 2019. The counting of votes and result declaration will be done on 23rd May 2019. There are 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat and the state shall be witnessing polls on 23 April in the 3rd phase. With just a couple of days to go into the elections, all parties are in their final steps of campaigning and rallies. While PM Modi continues his series of rallies across the nation addressing public meetings on the go, the opposition leader and Congress President are not too far behind in his endeavors to woo the public.

Amit Shah filed his nomination in presence of Uddhav Thackeray, the Shiv Sena supremo who stated that his attendance was only to bolster his party’s association with the BJP and not a show of power. The nomination was preceded by a road March from Sardar Patel Statue of Unity to Patidar Chowk in Ahmedabad. The senior party leaders and Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley were also present. However, L K Advani’s absence hinted that he was not entirely happy with his exclusion from elections.
