Former External Minister Sushma Swaraj Passes away at 67

Sushma Swaraj, a Supreme Court Lawyer and Former Minister of External Affairs has passed away yesterday i.e., on 06th of November 2019. She was 67 years old and is one of the most senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Her demise happened due to a Cardiac Arrest in AIIMS, Delhi.

Mrs. Sushma Swaraj was the youngest woman to become a cabinet minister. In 1977, at the age of 25, she became the cabinet minister of Haryana. She also served as the Chief Minister of Delhi in 1998. The woman served in various ministerial positions over time. She was a Member of Parliament from 1996 to 1999 and 2009 to 2019.

She served as the Minister of Information and Broadcasting from 30th September 2000 to 29th January 2003. From January 2003 to May 2004, she served as the Minister of Family Health and Family Welfare and the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs simultaneously. She served as the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha from 2009 to 2014, as Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs from 2014 to 2016 and as Minister of External Affairs from 2014 to 2019.

Sushma Swaraj was called India’s best-loved politician by Wall Street Journal. She held many awards to her names like being the first female spokesperson, BJP’s first female Chief Minister, Union Cabinet Minister, General Secretary, Spokesperson, and Minister of External Affairs. She was also Indian Parliament’s first and only female MP honored with Outstanding Parliamentarian Award.

Sushma Swaraj was married to Swaraj Kaushal and has a daughter. Her sudden demise has caused grief all over India. Her body will be cremated with Full State Honors today on 07th August 2019.
